Fun Ways to Celebrate Memorial Day Weekend with your Dog
Memorial Day weekend is a time when we take the time to remember the fallen heroes whom we have to thank for the freedoms we enjoy. It is also a time of rest and a time for enjoying those who are still with us. For dog lovers, this means a little extra time with our dogs other than the usual backyard barbecue. What should a man (or woman) and his best friend do? The options are endless but look here for a start!
1. If you plan on taking your dog out to the park, remember to stay safe and stay cool. Celebrating Memorial Day weekend typically means that most of the country will be experiencing high temperatures, so wherever you go, take lots of water, ice, towels, etc.
2. Schedule some time on this special holiday to give back to those who are either too old or too sick to own a pet. You and your dog can participate in Animal-assisted Activities through hospitals and nursing home centers. Simply show up with your dog and your smiles. Patients will be excited to see man’s best friend and maybe you’ll get the opportunity to hear from veterans and experience something special.
3. Taking your dog for a ride around town is always an excellent way to spend any holiday vacation. If you’re overdue for one, just make sure your dog wears a pet-friendly harness. Take them with you for a day full of errands, they’ll love the fresh air and bonding time with you. This could be a nice opportunity to have your dog pick out some new toys at the pet store. Just remember not to leave them in the car alone for ANY length of time.
4. Teach your dog some new tricks. Memorial Day weekend allows a great opportunity to spend some quality time training your dog. You could book some time at a professional dog training facility, this should ensure you that you will get a real improvement out of your dog in such a short amount of time.
5. Go camping together. A dog and his owner, spending quality time with nature, this will be a great bonding experience. Your dog will be in heaven with all the new sights, sounds, and smells to investigate. At end of a long day on the trail, you two can cuddle up inside a tent in a ball of disgusting happiness.
6. Plan a charity walk event with your dog. There are lots of events that surround Memorial Day weekend for those who want to get out for a good cause. Research events that include pets, so that you and your best friend can get some quality exercise together while raising funds for charity. Make sure your dog is up for the task by doing some endurance runs beforehand. Show up to the event well-prepared and be very careful not to have your dog walking over hot concrete surfaces.
We hope these ideas will give you and your furry little friend a weekend worth remembering. Well, any weekend with your dog is worth remembering but trying some new ways of enjoying yourselves will make the weekend a little extra special, agreed?
